When Doug Meyer was tapped to design Flexform’s space at DIFFA’s Dining by Design event in 2015, he knew he wanted to create an installation that reminded guests of the original reason the organization was founded. Meyer, a conceptual artist and designer who, with his brother Gene, creates collections of fabric, wallpaper, rugs and tiles, created three-dimensional hand-made “portraits” of some of the earliest creatives lost to AIDS -- including designers Angela Donghia and Robert Metzger and architect Alan Buchsbaum -- and installed them in the space, along with their obituaries from the New York Times.
