Christopher John Rogers for Orior Furniture/Alexa

Christopher John Rogers’ designs have been worn by some of the most famous people in the world on red carpets around the globe. Now he can dress their homes as well. The 2021 CFDA American Womenswear Designer of the year has collaborated with Orior, an Irish design studio and furniture manufacturer with a showroom in SoHo, on a capsule collection of chairs. Four upholstered designs from the Orior archives, which date back to 1979, have each been reimagined with one of Rogers’ signature fabrics, with 100% of proceeds benefitting grassroots organizations identified by Color of Change, a nonprofit civil rights advocacy...

Rolex Mentors in Alexa

When it debuted 20 years ago, the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative was billed as the company’s intention to fill a void in arts philanthropy — to ensure that the world’s artistic heritage is passed on personally, in the irreplaceable, time-honored tradition of master and protégé. The debut of the first class of mentors — which included novelist and Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison as well as director and playwright Robert Wilson — made it clear that this was not a superficial pursuit. In the two decades since, the initiative has developed into a prestigious program where 63 gifted protégés from...

Van Cleef’s dance initiatives/Galerie

In 2020, Van Cleef & Arpels launched Dance Reflections, an initiative they say aims to “uphold the artists and institutions that showcase the modern and contemporary choreographic repertoire, while encouraging new productions.” This year, Dance Reflections is partnering with three choreographers staging performances at venues in New York and Los Angeles. Read more about them here....

Rolex’s new gold Yachtmaster/Alexa

While Rolex has been synonymous with the world of sailing for 60 years, the brand’s ever-popular Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master was introduced just 30 years ago, designed especially for navigators, skippers and others who might revel in regattas. But the classic waterproof design clearly appealed to a wider audience, most notably on shore. Accordingly, it’s evolved and innovated over the years to accommodate the needs of its growing fan base. The latest iteration makes the Yacht-Master 42 mm available for the first time in 18-karat yellow gold. It retains many features of the original, including a bidirectional rotatable bezel and Chromalight display. It’s also...

Ginori x David Gil in Galerie Magazine

Last fall, Ginori 1735 introduced the first iteration of their “Reborn Project,” whereby the age-old Italian porcelain atelier gave nine creatives a go at designing tableware from existing blanks that were deemed imperfect. Jacques Grange and Paloma Picasso were two of the eight whose visions were hand-painted by Ginori’s master artisans, presenting unique tableware sets shown at Galerie du Passage. Each set was signed by the designer and priced at 50,000 euros; 80 percent sold during the first 24 hours. The second iteration featured four designers, including Flavie Audi and Martino Gamper, and debuted during Milan Design Week at Nilufar...

Jewelry by Artists Sotheby’s auction in ADPro

“Nobody could believe I got all these Calders for the auction,” says Tiffany Dubin—Sotheby’s artist jewelry specialist and head of sale—of the pieces she procured for Art as Jewelry as Art, the auction house’s first international sale focusing on jewelry by artists. Prepare your paddle: When measured to the costs and availability of their works of fine art, the prices of these wares are comparatively accessible. Read the article...

Zoe Buckman profile in HTSI/The Financial Times

Zoë Buckman is not a household name just yet. But if the past few years are any indication as to what the future holds, the 36-year-old Hackney native seems poised to become one of her generation’s most important feminist artists. Curators mention Buckman in the same sentence as Louise Bourgeois, Mary Kelly, Tracey Emin and Sophie Calle; her works are increasingly included in group shows with these women, as well as other artists of influence, such as Lorna Simpson and Carrie Mae Weems. The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Chrysler Museum of Art in...

Janus et Cie shoot/Elle Decor

Janus et Cie asked Elle Decor to shoot one of their newer collections in a location that "looked like Europe." Newport, RI was tossed around but I suggested Untermyer Gardens in Yonkers, NY and they went for it. Of course it was a gazillion degrees the day.  Tyler Joe shoot four models in fall fashions, styled by the awesome Daniel Edley, and a bunch of very stylish Janus et Cie outdoor furniture. You can see it in the September or on Janus et Cie's instagram....

What’s Next Pages/Elle Decor

My temporary tenure at Elle Decor ended with the September issue. I had several fun things in it, IMO, including the What's Next pages, which featured, among other things, this insane inlaid cabinet by Ivan Paradisi. This is not yet online so check it out IRL or...
